This colony came 2 years ago with 3 queens, then last year the colony produced several alate males and females which resulted in 2 new queens bring the queen number to 5. During this winter 2 queens died so it back to 3 again. The acrylic nest they live in has a plaster base, and oddly the larvae which have been in the nest over winter have developed a kind of chalky coating on them, though this does not seem to be hampering their development from what I have observed.
